Maya Namespace Issues
If the namespace of you character is a different namespace than one used to set up the character definition file, you can bind it to a different namespace.
Load the character file into a scene with a different namespace from the one that was used during setup.
Select the character in the scene, then when you load the character file, check the "Bind to selected object" checkbox in the dialogue.
This will remap the animation targets to the namespace of the selected object.
