Neutral Pose

The neutral pose is set by the Speech Graphics team as part of the character setup service. However you can edit this in SGX Studio.

Immediately after choosing or editing the animation targets, the next step is to define the neutral pose in terms of the animation targets. The neutral pose is the pose the character will have when all of the muscles are relaxed.

The neutral pose has the following simple requirements:

  • The eyes are open and looking forward.

  • The jaw is closed, with teeth together and lips touching each other.

  • The head is upright and facing forward.

  • Overall, the face is relaxed and expressionless.

The neutral pose is to be distinguished from the reference pose, which is the original pose of the character in the scene. The neutral pose may be identical to the bind pose if the bind pose meets these requirements (which it often does).
